EARTH & SOIL SCIENCES DEPARTMENT

EARTH & SOIL SCIENCES MAJORS

CHANGE OF MAJOR

POLICY AND PROCEDURE

Effective September 2005

Transferring into the Earth & Soil Sciences Department is not an automatic process.  Demand for the Earth Sciences major is increasing.

Minimum Qualifications for admittance into the Earth & Soil Sciences Department:

è        An overall GPA of 2.0 or better.

è        No more than one consecutive quarter on Academic Probation and currently not on academic probation.

Application Procedures:

1.         Make an appointment with the Earth & Soil Sciences Department Chair to discuss your change of major plans.

è       Students should bring their complete transcript from Cal Poly and other colleges or universities attended and

è   Be prepared to discuss their academic and career objectives.

2.         Students are normally advised of the decision of acceptance or rejection, at the end of the meeting.

3.                  If the request is accepted, obtain a Change of Major form from the Records

Office.  Complete and return the forms to Department Chair for signature.

The College of Agriculture requires all Earth Sciences or Soil Science students to progress towards their degree by making progress in the major and support courses.  Failure to make minimum progress for any two consecutive quarters might result in a hold placed on your record.  This progress includes completing with a passing grade ERSC/SS 110 and either ERSC 144 or SS 121.
